Waterfalls, Travel, & ministry

Now what in the heck do these three things have to do with photography. Well, as much as I try to deny it, I am not a separate entity from my business. Who you hire for your wedding day or session isn't just based off my skill as a photographer, because let's face it- there are so many talented photographers out there! In general I spend upwards of 15+ hours with my wedding couples between their wedding day,  engagement session, and meetings- so let's make sure our vibes mesh well!

the obsession is real

I have no idea why I am so obsessed with waterfalls- it could be because I grew up going to Stony Brook State Park with my dad each summer swimming at the base of the falls, it could be because I'm from New York State where there are hundreds of waterfalls, it could be the Lord of the Rings Rivendell vibes waterfalls give, it could be the flavor of AuDHD that I have that loves watching the water that calms my nervous system... I'm not sure! But I do know that every summer I find myself exploring new waterfalls or visiting old ones as a way to self care. Waterfalls are typically an hour or more away from my apartment which means a fun road trip, and most of the time waterfalls require some sort of hike which gets me out in nature. Overall it's just such a fun experience that has quickly become a core part of how I self care and connect my heart, soul, body, mind, and creative freedom.

it doesn't matter the destination

I've been as far as Scotland, Iceland, Ireland, Los Angeles, Utah, and the Bahamas for weddings, and everywhere in between. Being based in Rochester, NY, means I have access to the Adirondacks, the Hudson Valley, NYC, and the Catskills as well for shorter trips. I love a good road trip, and I love exploring new landscapes for a creative outlet. Sometimes I travel for personal reasons and portfolio building, and sometimes I'm able to travel for my couple's. Either way, getting on the road or on a plane or boat is healing to the soul.

Being a pastor's kid runs deep

I grew up in the American Church, and as a result I have a very complicated relationship with Christianity. I love Jesus, I love my Christian community, I love(d) leading the Young Adult Ministry at my church. Before photography, I was on a path to be a worship pastor- I was leading worship at my church and at a college ministry, as well as preaching and teaching college students.

In 2020 I deconstructed my faith, HARD. In 2022 I walked back into church, and found a deep, sincere community of healthy Christianity at The Father's House in Rochester, NY. From there I started their Young Adult Ministry from scratch, once again preaching, planning events, and growing the group to 50+ people. I lovvvveeed it. Ultimately I'm called to be a photographer, not to full time ministry, so in the summer of 2025 I stepped down from leadership to give more time to my clients and business. Even though I am not in vocational ministry, a love for people is still a core part of who I am.

What is wedding photography, at the end of the day? It's serving people. It's loving people. It's making sure people feel seen, heard, and loved. And that's why I'm sharing here on my website that I love ministry, because photography and ministry have a lot in common.

You're not just hiring me just because you like my photos- although that is a plus! What I've learned in the past five years of full time photography, is that wedding days are a LOT.  A photographer that knows how to run events while also having the patience and the love for people to help walk you through the biggest day of your life is a priceless addition to your wedding day.
